NEWS BRIEFS: University of Mississippi Students Seek Change

Student leaders at the University of Mississippi have organized in opposition to flying the state flag on campus. The opposition is in response to a Confederate symbol shown in the flag. Students have also expressed concern about the racist derivation of the school’s nickname, “Ole Miss.” The reference. “Ole Miss,” was used by slaves to refer to female plantation owners.
