PERSPECTIVES: Higher Education Has Faced Fascist Prospects Before, It is Facing It Again

Yael Bromberg and Jonathan Becker, writing in FORBES: “In response to the rise of fascism, the Truman Commission issued a 1947 report explaining that ‘the first and most essential charge upon higher education is that at all its levels and in all its fields of specialization, it shall be the carrier of democratic values, ideals, and process.'”They continue: “Our institutions of higher education, and the various civic actors who comprise them, are uniquely situated to be a part of the solution so that we may finally turn the page on this divisive, volatile chapter of our nation’s history. With perseverance, we will … overcome new restrictions on voting and further expand, constitutionalize, and codify basic democratic protections.” Read more here.
