NEWS BRIEFS: Counter Population Loss by Offering Free Tuition at Public Universities?

“The Growing Michigan Together Council has a tough task, reported Bridge Michigan. “Michigan remains the 10th most populous state in the nation with about 10 million residents, but it has ranked 49th out of 50 for population growth since 1990.” Among its preliminary recommendations, the Council recommended free tuition to attend Michigan public universities (there are no longer any public colleges in the state). The recommendation has come under fire. Here’s why.
