PERSPECTIVES: Back and Forth on College Access Has Gaps

Recently published commentaries and news reports about college access can leave readers shaking their heads. As pressure has built to historical levels regarding gaining access to elite private and public institutions, calls for ‘cloning’ schools, like Stanford, either aren’t feasible or desirable. And with the need to fill seats, other colleges and universities–even higher-ranked schools–are ramping up acceptance rates to levels that rival non-brand name institutions. Then, there are questions, such as: Who’s is/should be college-worthy? We know college isn’t for everybody, but why do we act as though it is?
