The traditional banter between advocates of open or private presidential searches is trumped by what is happening in Florida. There, gubernatorial and legislative efforts to control how public universities are led—indeed, what public universities are—make it more difficult to find legitimate candidates to seek and accept presidential responsibilities. Presidencies are currently open at three public universities–the University of Florida, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida A&M University. Read about the situation at WLRN.
