“For black male student-athletes to be given special consideration in admissions processes at elite universities, they actually have to be athletically exceptional,” says Shaun Harper, a professor and executive director of the University of Southern California’s Race and Equity Center. “Apparently, that is not the case for rich, mostly white kids who don’t even play sports.
