PERSPECTIVES: “Knowledge of Society is No Longer Needed”

From The Tampa Bay Times via MSN: Under the banner of higher education reform (claiming sociology is a dying discipline), the state of Florida has declared that students don’t need to be exposed to literature/discussions about society. “The educational system acknowledges that a lot of these classes — psychology, political science, math, environmental sciences — all of these disciplines are seen as major things that you need basic knowledge of to operate within the world,” USF social sciences student Lily Demkovich said. “But somehow a knowledge of society is no longer needed.
