NEWS BRIEFS: U of Houston to Faculty, “Sign This Pledge Not to Indoctrinate Your Students”

FROM HOUSTON PUBLIC MEDIA: Texas and Oklahoma are embroiled in a race to the bottom in higher education. Oklahoma’s governor signed a bill eliminating tenure at the state’s regional public universities and community colleges.The Texas Legislature passed a law, Senate Bill 37, which overhauls the public higher education system. It gives governing bodies greater authority over course curricula. Educators have said it will lead to censorship.” In response, “University of Houston faculty are being asked to sign their name to a memorandum that certifies their course curriculum does not ‘indoctrinate’ students.”
