PERSPECTIVES: NIH Funded, Then De-Funded, My Grant Claiming My Work Was “Non-Scientific, Amorphous, and Antithetical to Scientific Inquiry”

Northwestern’s Minoli Perera, writing in The Daily Northwestern and Academe Blog: “We were awarded an R01 grant by the National Institutes of Health to study genetic predictors of cardiovascular drug response in Puerto Ricans. I knew as a scientist that the incoming Trump administration would be problematic, but I never imagined what was coming (NIH pulled funding). Northwestern promptly appealed the decision, and the answer (from NIH) came (a few months later): my work no longer aligned with NIH priorities.
