NEWS BRIEFS: Trump Administration Fires Another Salvo at Higher Ed, This Time at Prospective Students

FROM INSIDE HIGHER EDUCATION:Overall, the Council for Opportunity in Education, a nonprofit advocacy group that focuses on supporting TRIO* programs, estimates that the Trump administration has withheld about $660 million worth of aid for more than 2,000 TRIO programs. (Congress allocated $1.19 billion to TRIO for the current fiscal year.)” 

*TRIO Programs are a set of eight federal educational opportunity outreach programs designed to identify, recruit, and serve individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to support their access to and success in higher educationThe name “TRIO” originated from the first three programs established, but now refers to all federally funded programs that provide academic support, financial assistance, and counseling for low-income, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities.” (bold text added)
