PERSPECTIVES: Young Researchers Often Thrive Outside Academia

The Nature Editorial Board addresses an important issue in science today: the overproduction of Ph.D.’s in relation to availability of tenure-track jobs available.


Many recent graduates are now employed outside of academe. How are they doing? “More than 75% had published as a principal author and 20% had published a paper in a high-impact journal such as Nature. 25% had managed to secure a competitive grant.”
