Dr. Michael Gavin is president of Delta College in Michigan and is committed to the notion that community colleges can reshape society’s inequities through open-access education and teaching excellence. Dr. Gavin has a doctorate in American Studies from the University of Maryland in College Park. His publications include Sports in the Aftermath of Tragedy: From Kennedy to Katrina (2012) and The New White Nationalism in Politics and Higher Education: The Nostalgia Spectrum (2021) . Earlier this year, he published a commentary, “Silence Isn’t a Strategy: Academic Leaders Must Resist Assault on Higher Ed,” in Truthout
